Scott Morrison has decided to pass on his title as the "No.1" ticketholder with the Cronulla Sharks, leaving fans with some "brutal" news at an NRL game on Friday night.
The former prime minister was bestowed with the honorary title back in 2016 during his time as treasurer, but has now decided to hand it back as he enters a new phase of life outside of the political arena.
In a statement, Morrison expressed his gratitude to the Sharks for the honor over the past eight seasons.
"I've really enjoyed my association with the club in this role and am thankful for the opportunity they've given me," Morrison said.
"I will continue to support the Sharks passionately in the years to come.
We have a rich history and a bright future ahead."
Morrison acknowledged the role his support has played for the club while he was in office, but felt it was time to step back after leaving politics.
Despite his decision, many Sharks fans at the game against the Bulldogs were caught off guard by the news of Morrison's departure from his title as the top ticketholder.
