Sydney Roosters centre Hugo Savala is joining teammates Victor Radley and Billy Smith on the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Savala has been named to England's pre-World Cup performance group as new head coach Brian McDermott prepares for the tournament starting in less than two months.
Like Radley and Smith, Savala grew up in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and played junior football for the Coogee Wombats.
The 24-year-old qualifies for England selection through his English mother.
He is now the latest player from the NRL to join the extended England squad, which also includes Radley, Smith, Herbie Farnworth, Dom Young, Morgan Knowles, Morgan Smithies, AJ Brimson, Kai Pearce-Paul, Max King, Jayden Brailey, and Ben Talty.
Savala, a versatile player capable of filling the centres or halves, will significantly enhance England's prospects for advancing in the tournament.
Brian McDermott, a former assistant coach with the Knights and Titans, has expressed his commitment to selecting the best available England-eligible players, regardless of their background or club affiliations.
Savala may not be the only Australian star to join the squad, as Rabbitohs playmaker Jamie Humphreys is reportedly investigating his English eligibility for World Cup selection.
