The transfer saga surrounding Sandon Smith intensifies as a new contender emerges. Just 48 hours after news broke that Smith was allowed to leave the Sydney Roosters, his services have garnered the attention of another club.

Sandon Smith was previously seen as the successor to Luke Keary after the veteran's departure in 2024. He started the season in a key position alongside Sam Walker but has since fallen behind in the team's hierarchy.

At only 22 years old, Smith has the potential for a fruitful career in the NRL and is likely to receive considerable interest following his clearance to seek a deal elsewhere.

In addition to being linked with the Canberra Raiders and North Queensland Cowboys, the Newcastle Knights have now also shown interest in the 2025 Anzac Day Medal winner.

Earlier in the season, the Parramatta Eels considered Smith a viable option but opted out in June to pursue other prospects like Dean Hawkins, Joash Papalii, and 2025 NSWRL SG Ball Cup Player of the Year Lorenzo Talataina.
