When Annetta Nu'uausala faces difficult times, she recalls what her father endured and draws strength from his example.
The youngest of 13 children, she often needed hospital care as a child because of respiratory problems.
Her father had no car, but he would contact his boss to arrange a taxi, go home to collect Annetta and her mother, and take them to hospital before returning to work.
He was the sole breadwinner, working demanding shifts at a steel manufacturer while putting his family's needs first.
Nu'uausala told foxsports.com.au: "He was the epitome of a hard worker and someone who is so resilient,"
She said, "That's played a huge part in who I am today.
"Whenever I feel like I'm going through a tough time, I look back and I reflect on what he went through and it's nothing compared to what he went through.
"That's what helps get me going. He's the man."
His determination left a lasting mark on Nu'uausala and helped shape her as a Samoan international.
