Rugby Star Johnston Honored with Statue

Alex Johnston will have a statue erected in his honour on Monday.

Alex Johnston's Historic Achievement Celebrated with Statue

On Friday night, Alex Johnston made history by breaking rugby league's long-held try-scoring record.

As a tribute to Johnston surpassing Ken Irvine's impressive tally of 212 tries, South Sydney plans to unveil a statue of him at Heffron Park this Monday.

This remarkable statue, crafted in Thailand over three years ago, has been patiently waiting in storage, wrapped in plastic, for Johnston's approval for its public display.

The South Sydney club had long sought to honor club icon George Piggins with a statue during their time at Redfern; however, they faced repeated denial from the City of Sydney Council and Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

With this new statue, Johnston will be immortalized, marking a significant milestone in the history of the NRL.

Fans are eager to see the tribute that celebrates not only Johnston's achievement but also the legacy of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

This unveiling signals a new chapter for the club, as they honor past legends while celebrating present triumphs.
