Canterbury's 2026 season ended with 11 wins and no finals berth, after the Bulldogs finished in the top four under Cameron Ciraldo the previous year.
Despite that setback, Max King wants to stay beyond his current contract.
King joined Canterbury in early 2022 and has become a key forward, playing 109 of his 159 NRL matches for the club.
His other NRL stints were with Gold Coast and Melbourne.
Reports linking him with the PNG Chiefs began during a Triple M segment featuring former journalist Phil Rothfield.
Rothfield suggested King was almost certain to join Port Moresby for the Chiefs' inaugural 2028 NRL season.
The rumour appeared credible because of King's contract position and Canterbury's crowded salary cap, which includes several major deals.
King is regarded as an important retention target.
Speaking on SEN Radio, he said, "I'm not sure where it came from, love the Bulldogs," the forward stated.
"I'd love to be a Bulldog for life.
"In terms of PNG, I haven't spoken to anybody."
