The Roosters have reportedly informed Sandon Smith that he is free to explore negotiations with other clubs, with the Raiders emerging as a potential destination for the young star. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly anticipating an announcement from Daly Cherry-Evans, whose recent comments regarding his future with the Manly Sea Eagles have stirred frustration.

Cherry-Evans, who declared earlier this season that he would not be with Manly in 2026, has left many questioning his next move. The ongoing uncertainty around the 36-year-old halfback has allegedly affected the team dynamics, as he has yet to confirm his destination for the upcoming season. He has been heavily linked to a move with the Roosters.

Reports indicate that Cherry-Evans may sign a one-year contract, before moving into a coaching role at the Roosters, suggesting that preparations for his potential arrival are underway. NRL reporter Michael Chammas has stated that the Roosters' decision to allow Smith to negotiate with other teams signals this move.

On Channel Nine's 100% Footy, Chammas noted that the young playmaker has been in discussions with the Raiders, as they see him as a possible backup with Jamal Fogarty likely to replace Cherry-Evans at Manly. However, Smith might find himself positioned behind emerging superstars Ethan Strange and Ethan Sanders in the Raiders' lineup.

"He's been in conversations with the Canberra Raiders," Chammas remarked. "The Raiders are looking at some depth. I don't know if it will play out that way, whether or not he wants to go somewhere and start. Options are limited."

Should he join the Raiders, Smith could serve as a valuable backup for coach Ricky Stuart, especially if injuries arise. Despite his potential fit with the team, uncertainties linger regarding Cherry-Evans' transfer to the Roosters. NRL reporter Phil Rothfield mentioned that it remains unclear if Cherry-Evans has formally signed with the Roosters, as no registration with the NRL has occurred yet, leaving the Roosters with several possibilities moving forward.
