Roosters May Not Extend Angus Crichton's Contract

A significant shift is on the horizon as the Sydney Roosters seem uninterested in extending the contract of NSW Blues star Angus Crichton.

Crichton, approaching his 200-match milestone in the NRL, has consistently ranked among the top back-rowers in recent seasons, earning representation for both the NSW Blues and the Australian national team.

As he enters the final season of his contract with the Roosters, it was initially anticipated that the 29-year-old would secure a new contract extension equivalent to his current $800,000 annual salary.

However, recent reports suggest he may be searching for a new club as the Roosters aim to create salary cap space.

On the Off The Record Podcast, journalist Phil Rothfield indicated that the Roosters are not eager to prolong the contract of last year's Brad Fittler Medal and Wally Lewis Medal recipient. This stance is attributed to Crichton reaching the latter stages of his career and the emergence of younger talent within the team, including Siua Wong, Salesi Foekiti, and Blake Steep.

"Angus Crichton is off (contract) at the Roosters. The club weren't overly keen on re-signing him, and he's talking about going to union anyway," Rothfield stated.
