Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson acknowledged Brandon Smith's decision to join South Sydney as a "good move for him" but did not confirm an immediate release for the injured star.
Smith signed a two-year deal with the Rabbitohs after meeting with coach Wayne Bennett, who had previously wanted him for the Dolphins.
Robinson mentioned, "It's been pretty transparent since November." He also stated, "We've had those conversations, Brandon has had those conversations." Despite Smith's struggles with the Roosters since joining in 2023, Robinson recognized that South Sydney was a good fit for him.
He added, "Wayne is obviously a great coach, and he gets to stay in the area he's really enjoyed and it's a position they want to fill as well." The Roosters are in discussions with Smith to come to an agreement regarding his departure.
