Robinson Defends Leniu's Controversial Penalty Incident

Robinson defends Leniu after Roosters star ignores ref SIX times in ‘stupid’ brain explosion

Following a challenging game against the Rabbitohs, Trent Robinson expressed his support for Spencer Leniu, who faced criticism for a moment of poor judgment during the match.

This incident occurred in the 24th minute when Leniu was penalised for throwing the ball away instead of following referee Chris Gee's directions to play the ball.

During this time, Leniu was fixated on staring down Keaon Koloamatangi, ignoring the repeated calls from the referee, who had already signalled a six-again for the Roosters.

Despite the referee's urgency, Leniu engaged in a confrontation with Koloamatangi and ultimately threw the ball away, even after both teams had been separated.

Cooper Cronk, a Roosters premiership-winning halfback, described Leniu's actions as "stupid," while former player Greg Alexander remarked that Leniu "completely lost his head."

"These are moments where it's fun and it's great viewing, but if you're the coach and your player throws the ball away when you're trying to work it out of trouble. What are you doing?" Alexander noted.

For Robinson, this incident was particularly frustrating given that the Roosters were already short-handed, resting nine players for the match.
