Ricky Stuart Reveals Plans for Coby Black at the Raiders

Coby Black recently contacted Ricky Stuart to declare, "I'm a Raider," signaling a significant shift in the NRL landscape for the future.

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has touted new signing Coby Black as "the real deal," expressing confidence that the young halfback will mature into a premier playmaker within the club.

Black surprised the Brisbane Broncos by requesting a release at the end of next season, opting for a two-year deal with the Raiders starting in 2027. This decision came in response to the Broncos signing Jonah Pezet, which, as Stuart noted, resulted in a "career-blocking" situation for the Queensland under-19s talent.

Stuart was impressed with Black's poise during this year's Under-19s State of Origin, where he secured a vital field goal and try, helping Queensland clinch a narrow 23-22 victory. Stuart commented, "I see a good organising halfback in Coby. He has a strong kicking game, controls the ruck, and fits the running style of footy."
