Brisbane faces a double setback for 2027 as Adam Reynolds prepares to step away from playing.

The veteran halfback, central to the club's 2025 premiership, is out of contract after 2026.

Despite earlier hints he might extend his career into 2027, Reynolds has been hampered by recurring injuries.

Now 36, the playmaker's body and form have prompted growing conjecture that he will retire at season's end.

Multiple outlets are reporting he will announce his decision when the 2026 campaign concludes, arranging a final year in the NRL.

After his playing days he is expected to transition into coaching, with many believing he will stay at Red Hill.

The Broncos have already outlined succession plans to replace him in the halves and throughout the spine.

Jonah Pezet, who departed Melbourne at the end of 2025 and spent 2026 with Parramatta, is slated to join Brisbane in 2027.

Pezet is viewed as a long-term successor to Reynolds and one of the game's most promising young halves.

When combined with Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam, the prospective spine ranks among the NRL's most dynamic units.

However the timing of Reynolds' likely exit is complicated by another major development within the squad.

On Sunday it was confirmed that star forward Payne Haas will shockingly move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs on a three-year deal.
