Australia's rugby league coach, Kevin Walters, has announced that Brisbane Broncos' fullback Reece Walsh is "right in the mix" for the Kangaroos, potentially making his international debut during the upcoming 2025 Ashes Series.
Walsh, who is 23 years old, has already earned five caps for Queensland and appears to be on a trajectory towards more significant achievements in his career.
Since joining the Broncos in 2023, Walsh has elevated his game remarkably. He has gained recognition not just for his off-field persona but also for his exceptional skill and dynamic playing style on the field.
During an interview with The Courier-Mail, Walters confirmed that "Reece is right in the mix" for a spot in the national squad for the Ashes Series against England at the year's end.
This announcement comes after several fullbacks, including Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Latrell Mitchell, and Tom Trbojevic, have been sidelined, increasing Walsh's chances for selection.
"There's a lot of competition for spots, particularly in the fullback role, but Reece is putting himself in the frame with how he is playing that's for sure," Walters emphasized.
He added, "We've often seen over the years guys get onto Kangaroo tours from playing well in the finals and the grand final."
