Cowboys coach Todd Payten has characterized the team's recent defeat to the Roosters as the club's "darkest day," while captain Reuben Cotter referred to it as the "most embarrassing game" he has ever experienced.
The Cowboys struggled significantly as the Roosters easily secured 14 tries, accumulating 82 points, marking the third highest score in NRL history, just nine points shy of the record held by St George since 1935.
Sam Walker truly dominated the field, scoring 36 points, which ranks as the fourth highest by a player in a premiership match.
This match represented the Roosters' sixth consecutive victory, while the Cowboys faced their largest defeat margin and allowed the most points ever recorded against their club.
Following the game, an astonished Payten extended his apologies to the fans, candidly expressing his emotions.
"That's absolutely unacceptable. And as a coach for this club, it's one of the darkest days, if not the darkest day, and I'd like to apologise to the members and fans that turned up here today and those that watched it at home," Payten said.
