Raiders' Young Escapes Suspension After Hair Pull

Hudson Young Charged Over Hair Pull, Pompey Facing Suspension

Canberra Raiders second-rower Hudson Young will not face suspension for pulling Dominic Young's hair during their recent match against the Newcastle Knights on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred early in the second half when Young was penalised for grabbing his opponent by the hair during a play the ball.

Currently in contention for selection in the New South Wales Blues this season, Young has received a Grade 1 contrary conduct charge, which incurs a $1000 fine if he pleads guilty early, or $1500 if he contests it and loses at the judiciary.

This marks his first offence in the last 12 months.

In contrast, New Zealand Warriors centre Adam Pompey faced a more severe outcome after being penalised for dangerous contact in the 67th minute of his team's defeat against the Cronulla Sharks.

Though the incident involving Briton Nikora went unpenalised and unreported, Pompey is now charged with Grade 2 for a lifted knee that made contact with Nikora's face.

Nikora, who was returning from injury, exited the tackle while holding his nose, putting Pompey in a position to choose between accepting a one-match suspension with an early guilty plea or risking a second match by contesting the charge.

The Match Review Committee handed out three additional charges from the double-header, all stemming from the later game: Greg Marzhew for dangerous contact on Kaeo Weekes, Kaeo Weekes for a careless high tackle on Phoenix Crossland, and Tyson Frizell for dangerous contact on Joseph Tapine.

Frizell faces a possible fine of $1800 with an early guilty plea, while Marzhew and Weekes can opt for $1000 fines as first offenders, or contest and risk $1500.
