Less than a week after announcing the acquisition of remarkable talent Coby Black, the Canberra Raiders have added another promising young player from the Brisbane Broncos: Saxon Innes.
Innes, who has been the starting fullback in the Under-20s NRLQ Series for the Broncos, will bring his skills to the Raiders, signing a lower-grade contract that allows him to train with the first-grade squad during the pre-season.
Renowned for his exceptional speed and impressive footwork, Innes enjoyed a standout season in the 2025 Mal Meninga Cup and made two appearances in the QLD Cup at the end of the 2024 season.
A participant in the Under-19s Queensland Maroons Emerging State of Origin squad, the graduate of Marsden State High School was once seen as a significant part of the Broncos' future. However, his progress was hampered by Reece Walsh, who is still in his early 20s.
With a recorded time of 4.63 seconds in a 40-metre dash, Innes aims to make an immediate impact with the Raiders and compete with Daine Laurie in the coming seasons as Kaeo Weekes' backup for the No. 1 jersey.
