Ricky Stuart's Canberra Raiders made a bold statement with a resounding 30-8 victory over the Warriors in their NRL season opener, despite facing controversy in Las Vegas.

Xavier Savage shone with two tries, just days after proposing in front of the Bellagio.

The win was a response to criticism following a hotel scuffle involving teammates Hudson Young and Morgan Smithies.

Stuart praised his team's performance, declaring they "won't finish last" and dismissing their wooden spoon predictions.

However, there was a setback as Joe Tapine was sin-binned for a shoulder charge on Mitch Barnett.

Fox League commentator Braith Anasta speculated that Tapine could face further scrutiny for the tackle.

Stuart expressed pride in his team's strong start to the season and the opportunity to showcase the sport globally, saying, "The Vegas game goes to show you don't always have to listen to the doubters."
