In a closely contested match at McDonald Jones Stadium, the Canberra Raiders secured a narrow 22-18 victory over the Newcastle Knights, propelling them to the top of the NRL ladder.
This win marks the Raiders' 13th of the season.
The game started with both teams demonstrating solid defense in damp conditions.
However, the Raiders took control early on, with key line breaks, including an impactful performance by Centre Matthew Timoko, who gained 60 run metres.
His efforts set up an attacking kick from five-eighth Ethan Strange.
The Raiders eventually turned their momentum into a score when second rower Simi Sasagi caught Strange's high ball, leaping over Newcastle's fullback Kalyn Ponga to score.
Despite a missed conversion by Fogarty, the Raiders led by four points.
Newcastle, buoyed by recent good form, aimed to climb to the top of the ladder, creating an intense atmosphere throughout the match.
