Raiders Reevaluate Stewart's Departure Amid NRL Links

The Canberra Raiders are reconsidering the future of Chevy Stewart, who was previously allowed to leave the club if he secured a new contract elsewhere, as they head into the 2026 NRL season.

Stewart, a promising fullback alongside talent such as Liam Ison, Sua Fa'alogo, and Isaiah Iongi, has faced uncertainty regarding his position in Canberra over recent months.

Originally viewed as a key player for the club after his transfer from Cronulla, Stewart has since been overshadowed by Kaeo Weekes, who recently signed a long-term extension and established himself as the primary choice for the jersey.

Despite being under contract for another year with a mutual option for an additional season, speculation has grown that Stewart could leave the Raiders, following Adam Cook and Trey Mooney out the door.

However, reports from The Canberra Times suggest that Stewart "appears likely to stay" in Canberra, despite the initial permission granted to him to explore other opportunities.

It's noted that St George Illawarra was among the clubs interested in the two-time Under-19s NSW Blues representative fullback.
