Concerns are rising that Canberra Raiders forward Matty Nicholson's season may be in jeopardy as he prepares for shoulder reconstruction surgery.
According to the Daily Telegraph, specialists have recommended that the English player undergo the procedure following a series of shoulder dislocations to prevent further injuries.
Nicholson partially dislocated his shoulder during the Raiders' NSW Cup match last weekend.
This was a recurrence of the same injury he sustained in a preseason game against the Sharks just two weeks prior.
He is anticipated to be sidelined for three to five months; however, the Raiders are refraining from dismissing his chances of returning this year and will keep a close watch on his rehabilitation.
As a key player in the Raiders' forward pack, this is a significant setback, especially since Nicholson missed four months last season due to a fractured fibula and a syndesmosis injury.
Although he is under contract until 2027, Nicholson has only managed to make 12 appearances for the Raiders since joining in 2025.
