Raiders, Dragons: Charged or just caught in the ruck?

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Canberra Raiders fullback Kaeo Weekes and St George Illawarra Dragons prop David Klemmer have been charged by the NRL's match review committee (MRC) for separate offences during the matches on Saturday night.

According to reports from zerotackle.com, Klemmer was sin-binned for a high shot on Canberra prop Joseph Tapine in the latter stages of the Dragons' loss to the Raiders.

Although Klemmer was sin-binned, he was not initially placed on report.

The MRC later rectified this oversight, issuing Klemmer a Grade 1 careless high tackle charge.

As it is his first offence on a rolling 12-month record, Klemmer faces a fine of $1000 if he opts for an early guilty plea, or $1500 if he chooses to contest the charge and loses.

In addition to Klemmer, Weekes has been charged for a crusher tackle on Blake Lawrie.

For this offence, he faces a higher penalty due to the nature of the tackle: $1500 with an early guilty plea or $2000 if he fights the charge and is unsuccessful.
