Raiders' Backline Strengthens for 2026

Heading into 2026, the Canberra Raiders are poised with a formidable backline, featuring one of the NRL's most talented groups of outside backs, following their successful run as the reigning minor premiers.

Among the star-studded roster, new recruit Sione Finau is expected to present challenges for head coach Ricky Stuart as he crafts the ideal backline for the upcoming season.

Previously with the St George Illawarra Dragons, Finau predominantly played as a winger, but indications suggest a shift towards the centre position as he adjusts to his new club.

"So I kind of add a bit of versatility to the [Raiders] backline."

Finau has discussed his experiences during the preseason with the Raiders, which could play a crucial role in shaping his first-grade future.

"I have been getting a few reps at centre at training, so I think 'Stick' [Ricky Stuart] just wants me there to be a backup and hopefully when someone goes down, I'm next up in line," he stated regarding his expected contributions to the Canberra squad.

"It's good to have that on my resume."
