As the South Sydney Rabbitohs gear up for their season finale, young back-rower Thomas Fletcher is keen on securing a contract extension with the club.
Fletcher made his debut in Round 22 against the Brisbane Broncos and has demonstrated his potential during his earlier time in the NSW Cup over the last two years. Despite limited game time in first-grade, he has successfully met expectations.
Following a standout performance against the St George Illawarra Dragons, Fletcher aims to replicate that success in the upcoming match against the Sydney Roosters, a team he once represented.
In his previous outing, Fletcher showcased impressive skills, running over 100 metres, making two line breaks, assisting in a try, and scoring his first career try. He is determined not only to make a similar impact but also to secure a new deal that would keep him with the Rabbitohs.
"I'd love to stay at Souths so hopefully we can work something out," Fletcher shared with Zero Tackle.
"It's the greatest thing ever (wearing the jersey). I don't think anything I've done compares to it. I'm speechless."
Fletcher is focusing on improving his defensive skills and has admitted he "doesn't remember" playing for the Roosters in their Under-17s Harold Matthews Cup side. He is hopeful that a contract extension will enable him to continue playing alongside his roommate, Matthew Humphries.
