The South Sydney Rabbitohs are reportedly set to secure new contracts for two key players, Alex Johnston and Cody Walker, as part of their strategy for the upcoming NRL season.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, both players are expected to sign one-year extensions, which will keep them at the club until 2026.

The Rabbitohs considered a two-year contract for Walker; however, this was ultimately rejected due to his injury issues that have caused him to miss several games this season.

Head coach Wayne Bennett expressed confidence in Walker's capabilities, stating, "Cody plays to a very high standard so I don't see any reason why he can't continue." He acknowledged the inevitable progression of age in sports, adding, "It won't continue forever, I know that, but Cameron Smith showed us all you can play NRL at 37 and go well into your 30s."

The decision to extend their contracts reflects the club's commitment to retaining experienced talent as they aim to strengthen their lineup for future seasons.
