Rabbitohs hop to victory but lose key player

The South Sydney Rabbitohs began the 2025 NRL season with a victory over The Dolphins, but their win was overshadowed by a major injury blow.

Winger Tyrone Munro, who has already suffered two collarbone fractures last season, sustained his fourth collarbone injury in two and a half years and had to be escorted from the field.

Coach Wayne Bennett confirmed the extent of Munro's injury, stating, "It looks like he has done his collarbone again." This setback will see Munro sidelined for multiple weeks, with Fletcher Myers likely to step in as his replacement on the wing.

However, veteran Alex Johnston's availability remains uncertain.

In addition to Munro's injury, Rabbitohs' player Jack Wighton is also facing potential repercussions after being placed on report for a raised forearm in a tackle.

Wighton's involvement in next week's match is now in doubt pending the decision from the Match Review Committee on Saturday morning.

Despite the victory, the Rabbitohs will have to regroup and adjust to the absence of Munro in the upcoming matches.

The team will need to rely on their depth and adaptability to fill the void left by the injured winger.

As they navigate through this setback, they will also await further updates on Wighton's status for the next game.

The season opener may have brought success on the field for the Rabbitohs, but the injury to Munro serves as a reminder of the physical toll that competitive sport can take.

The team will need to rally together and overcome this hurdle as they aim to build on their winning start under the guidance of coach Wayne Bennett.
