"I'm in negotiations": Rabbitohs back Jacob Gagai ready to lock in future
The South Sydney Rabbitohs journeyman Jacob Gagai has revealed he is in discussions with the club about extending his contract into the 2025 NRL season.
Gagai, who can play both centre and wing positions, has had a tough time breaking into the first-grade squad until this season.
Making his NRL debut in Round 1 during the Rabbitohs' Las Vegas showdown, the 28-year-old has since played 13 games for the Maroubra-based club, crossing the try line nine times, including a sensational hat-trick against the Dolphins in Round 19.
Although he may struggle to secure a spot in the starting 17 when the Rabbitohs return to full strength next season, Gagai has proven his worth as a valuable squad member under coaches Jason Demetriou and interim coach Ben Hornby this year.
This has led to discussions about his future with legendary coach Wayne Bennett from the beginning of the 2025 season.
The younger sibling of NRL star Dane Gagai, Jacob has expressed his keenness to remain with the Rabbitohs as negotiations continue.
