The Rabbitohs have copped another blow as their star player, Latrell Mitchell, faces a longer stint on the sidelines due to a foot injury.
Reports from zerotackle.com suggest that the injury may be even more severe than initially thought, raising doubts about whether Mitchell will see any game time for the rest of the season.
It's a tough break for the fullback, who had already been ruled out of Game 3 of the State of Origin series after bravely soldiering on with the injury during a recent match against the Parramatta Eels.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Mitchell is now expected to be out of action for at least a month, with his potential return depending on the extent of what appears to be a troublesome Lisfranc injury in his foot.
Despite feeling discomfort in his foot during the game against the Eels, Mitchell played on for around 60 minutes before signaling to Souths officials that he was in pain.
However, no decision was made to substitute him out of the game at halftime.
The loss of Mitchell is a bitter pill to swallow for the Rabbitohs, who will now have to dig deep and rally together in his absence.
It's a setback that will test their resolve and determination as they strive to overcome this latest hurdle in their season.
