Rabbitohs Face New Injury Concerns in Training

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are facing another injury scare as they prepare for the upcoming pre-season trials, following a tumultuous year plagued by injuries. Fresh off a challenging 2025 season, reports from News Corp indicate that both Latrell Mitchell and new recruit David Fifita have sustained injuries.

Mitchell, who missed significant time during the 2025 season, is dealing with a calf issue, while Fifita has incurred a rib injury. Fortunately, reports suggest that both players are not expected to be sidelined for long periods and are anticipated to be ready for the Charity Shield match against the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Due to Mitchell's injuries last year, Jye Gray has been able to seize opportunities, and it's speculated that the young talent will take over the Rabbitohs' number one jersey this season, with Mitchell possibly shifting to a centre position.

Fifita's injuries were also a concern during his time at the Gold Coast, where he faced a significant ankle injury that caused him to miss considerable playing time before his release from the club at the end of the season.

The 2025 season was particularly tough for the Rabbitohs, who dealt with over 200 weeks of injuries, marking an unfortunate record in the NRL for the worst injury run in a single season.
