R360 league delays launch until 2028, cites need for more time

The R360 league, a proposed breakaway initiative aimed at transforming club rugby, has postponed its launch to 2028. This decision underscores the necessity for additional preparation time before initiating the league.

Despite this delay, R360 announced that it has successfully secured a player from every tier 1 rugby nation.

"The decision to shift the launch to 2028 is a strategic decision based on timing," stated Mike Tindall, a former England centre and face of the new league.

Tindall emphasized the importance of quality over speed: "Launching under compressed timelines would not meet the standards we set for R360, nor would it deliver the long-term commercial impact that the sport deserves."

He further reassured that the league's commitment to players remains steadfast. "From day one, the commitment to players has been unwavering. Many of the world's best female and male players continue to express strong interest in joining R360. We want them to thrive -- not be placed under unnecessary pressure."

The league aims to "complement" the international rugby calendar, strategically aligning itself with events such as the inaugural Women's Lions Tour and the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
