In a bold move that has sent shockwaves through the Rugby League world, the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks have secured the services of powerhouse lock Hohepa Puru for the 2025 season.

The talented player, who hails from the Windsor Wolves junior club, is set to make a big impact on the Shire club after a successful two-year stint with the Canberra Raiders.

Puru will have the opportunity to team up with his twin brother Niwhai once again, after their triumphant Jersey Flegg Cup Grand Final victory with the Penrith Panthers in 2022.

The brothers will be looking to recreate their winning form on the field, with Niwhai coming off a stellar performance as the 2024 Player of the Match for Newtown Jets in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Grand Final.

Joining Puru at the Sharks is fellow former teammate Liam Ison, who has already made a name for himself in the NRL after a standout season with Newtown Jets in 2024.

Ison's experience and skill will be a valuable asset to the Sharks as they prepare for the upcoming season under the guidance of coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

Puru's impressive stats from his time at Canberra speak for themselves, with a record of seven tries, three try-assists, eight line-breaks, and 41 tackle-busts in 27 matches.

He dominated the competition with 1,021 tackles at an incredible 92.9 per cent efficiency, showing his defensive prowess on the field.

Additionally, he ranked fifth in run metres with 3,383 (125 on average), proving himself to be a force to be reckoned with in the Rugby League arena.

As Puru gears up to take on the challenge of playing for the Sharks, fans are eagerly anticipating the excitement and intensity he will bring to the team.

With his skill, determination, and hunger for success, Puru is ready to make his mark and carve out a legacy in the Rugby League world.
