Star rugby talent Treyvon Pritchard has declined an offer from the PNG Chiefs, choosing instead to stay within Rugby Australia. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the expansion club could not secure Pritchard's signature.
On Sunday, the publication revealed that Pritchard decided against pursuing a career in the NRL and is close to finalizing a long-term contract with the Queensland Reds, aiming for a Rugby World Cup opportunity.
The Chiefs viewed him as a key player for their franchise in the 13-man code and intended to bring him on board for their inaugural season in 2028.
New information from Nine.com.au indicates that both Treyvon and his elder brother Kadin have agreed to long-term extensions within Rugby Australia.
Kadin was also targeted by the Chiefs, but following discussions between the brothers and Chiefs representatives in Brisbane, they expressed their commitment to advancing in the 15-man format.
Eventually, Rugby Australia made a competitive counteroffer for Treyvon, presenting a three-year deal that influenced his final choice.
In the meantime, the Chiefs secured Zac Lomax, announcing the acquisition of the former NSW Blues winger on Sunday.
Lomax had been playing with the Western Force after a complicated legal dispute over his contract with the Parramatta Eels.
He will complete his time at the Force before making his return to the NRL.
