Potential Storm Move Linked to Pezet's Clause

2020 swap that could trigger Storm move

Speculation is growing that young Melbourne Storm halfback Jonah Pezet may be loaned to a rival club in 2026 following Jahrome Hughes' recent long-term extension with the team. Pezet, 22, signed a new contract last year to stay at the Storm until the end of the 2029 season, but he possesses a get-out clause triggered by Hughes' continued presence.

His agent, Braith Anasta, noted on NRL 360 last week that discussions with the club could be forthcoming regarding Pezet's future. After returning from a significant knee injury last year, Pezet has played three games off the bench this season but would likely be a starting halfback for many other clubs.

While Pezet's preference is to remain with the Storm for the long haul, the possibility exists that he might play for another team next year, especially if Cameron Munster is allowed to pursue an opportunity with the Perth Bears in 2027. Pezet commented, "I think I'll leave that up to Braith and everyone at the club, whether it be Trippy (Storm chairman Matt Tripp), or Bunny (Storm recruitment manager Paul Bunn) and the people in charge, Frank (Storm director of football Frank Ponissi) and stuff, they'll sort it all out."

He also emphasized his focus on performance, stating, "I'm just focused on putting my best foot forward every week and that's when Belza (Storm coach Craig Bellamy) picks the team, so I'll do what I can to make sure he puts me in the 17 every week and then all the other stuff will roll off the back of that."
