PNG Chiefs Secure Record Sponsorship Deal

PNG Chiefs BSP Announcement - PNG Chiefs

In a significant development for the NRL landscape, the PNG Chiefs have secured a groundbreaking sponsorship deal with the Bank South Pacific (BSP), which could redefine team partnerships in the league.

This announcement surpasses the previous record set just nine months prior by the Perth Bears, who inked an agreement with Cash Converters valued at $6 million over three years.

The new agreement, confirmed at Santos Stadium in Port Moresby, is estimated to provide the Chiefs with around $5 million per season over three years, marking it as the largest sponsorship in NRL history.

Alongside front-of-jersey rights, the BSP deal includes community initiatives, match-day activations, hospitality, signage, and support for academy and pathway programs.

Lorna McPherson, the CEO of the PNG Chiefs, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, "BSP is an organisation that is part of the fabric of the country and community."

She noted that BSP's commitment reflects confidence in the Chiefs' vision and their potential to create opportunities for the people of Papua New Guinea.

BSP chairman Robert Bradshaw highlighted the meaningfulness of a locally based company supporting the national team, noting that rugby league uniquely brings Papua New Guinea together.

However, the timing of this deal may stir concern among established NRL teams, especially with conversations ongoing regarding potential tax concessions aimed at aiding player recruitment for the Chiefs.
