The latest news from the Rugby League world down under is that the Cook Islands men's and women's teams are gearing up to compete in the Pacific Championships with a heartfelt dedication to Troy Dargan, a former Aitu playmaker.

The players will be proudly displaying Dargan's name on the left sleeve of their jerseys as a tribute to the talented athlete.

Troy Dargan was a key player who helped lead the Aitu to qualify for the World Cup back in 2022.

Tragically, he passed away last December at the young age of 26 following a motorcycle accident in the Cook Islands.

With a background as an Australian Schoolboys representative and a member of the 2016 NYC team of the year, Dargan made his mark in the rugby league world with stints at the Eels, Broncos, and eventually making his NRL debut with the Rabbitohs in 2020.

He was also set to join the Raiders this season after signing a two-year contract, further solidifying his place in the league.

Aitu captain Brad Takairangi spoke about the impact of Dargan's loss on the Cook Islands rugby league community, emphasizing the deep sense of loss felt by all.

The players are determined to honor his memory in their upcoming matches against Fiji and Papua New Guinea, showcasing their respect and admiration for their fallen comrade.

It's clear that Troy Dargan's legacy continues to inspire and motivate the Cook Islands teams as they prepare to hit the field in his honor, demonstrating the unbreakable bond that exists within the rugby league community.
