Pezet Eyes Free Agency, Explores Future Options

Melbourne Storm's emerging talent, Jonah Pezet, has reportedly told the club of his intention to enter free agency to assess his options. This move does not necessarily indicate he will leave the Storm, a team he has expressed a desire to remain with; however, it's evident he needs to consider alternatives to secure consistent first-grade play.

Pezet's contract included a trigger allowing him to become a free agent as soon as New Zealand's international halfback, Jonah Pezet, re-signed, which he did mid-2025. The junior State of Origin halfback has made significant contributions, particularly during the second half of 2025 when he stepped up while star player Hughes was sidelined, notably during a qualifying final victory against the Canterbury Bulldogs. According to a report by News Corp, Pezet has activated this clause.

This development suggests he might find a new club starting in 2026, whether permanently or through a loan arrangement, depending largely on the future of Cameron Munster. While Pezet primarily plays as a halfback, sources indicate he would be willing to take on the Storm's number six position, a role he has temporarily filled during Munster's injuries, if Munster opts for a move to the Perth Bears in 2027.

The Storm management has expressed their commitment to keeping Munster but also noted they wouldn't obstruct his desire to move west for a lucrative contract, potentially worth $1.5 million annually, to finish his career.
