Perth Bears sign Schoolboys prospect

Ex-NRL Player Joins Perth Bears' Feeder Club

The Perth Bears' maiden squad will begin preseason training on November 23, following the launch of the club's campaign earlier this month ahead of the 2027 season.

Manly's Blake Wilson is also moving west after failing to secure a starting place in the Sea Eagles' backline.

Having impressed in his early years at the Bulldogs, Wilson is an established first-grader who will challenge for a starting role from Round 1 in 2027.

The Bears have signed former Australian Schoolboys representative Filipe Fakauho from the Sydney Roosters on a three-year deal.

He is expected to progress to a train-and-replacement contract, complete a demanding preseason in Perth, then return to North Sydney for NSW Cup in 2028.

In the final year of his deal, Fakauho will join the NRL development list and live full-time in Western Australia, aiming for a place in the Bears' outside backs.

The Matraville Sports High graduate played SG Ball for the Roosters in 2026 and can play centre or wing.

He joined Roosters teammates Liam Bell, Darcy Smith and Xzavier Timoteo in the Australian Schoolboys, who beat the Junior Kumuls 22-14 in Port Moresby last year.

Coach Mal Meninga has also secured Mitchell Taotua for 2027. The former Wests Tigers back-rower made 11 NSW Cup appearances for the Magpies this year, recording 20 tackle breaks and 219 tackles at just under 93 per cent efficiency.
