Penrith are not worried that rival clubs will persuade Nathan Cleary to leave, despite reports that his next deal could be worth about $1.7 million a season.
The Herald Sun reported the figure as the 29-year-old prepares to enter the open market on November 1.
Cleary is reportedly earning $1.3 million in 2027 and has had only one contract-extension discussion with Penrith, in September.
He has told people close to him he will take his time before signing again, while focusing on recovery and targeting a Round 1 return in 2027.
He broke his fibula and ruptured a syndesmosis against Newcastle in the preliminary final, and recently underwent a second operation on the broken bone in his right foot.
Despite Penrith missing the Grand Final, Cleary won the Dally M Medal, an Origin series and Player of the Series honours, after four straight premierships.
The PNG Chiefs are among the rival clubs expected to pursue him.
Penrith are also negotiating with Moses Leota and Liam Martin. Isaah Yeo has agreed to a three-year extension, pending salary-cap auditor review of its market value because the offer includes a post-playing role.
