Payten Revives Cowboys After Historic Loss

Todd Payten has shared the crucial measures he enacted to help the North Queensland Cowboys recover from a particularly dismal moment in the club's history.

This rebound was evident in their impressive 30-8 victory over the Gold Coast Titans on Thursday night.

The win not only rejuvenates North Queensland's aspirations for the finals, but it also follows a stunning 82-12 defeat to the Sydney Roosters, a match Payten referred to as one of the "darkest days" in the club's legacy.

Instead of letting the disappointment fester, Payten took immediate action by assembling his players and staff right after the game to directly address the poor performance.

"I asked the players and staff to turn up to the leagues club after the match. It was a late game but it is important that we front up together. We did that, we addressed it and now we move forward," Payten remarked during the post-match press conference.

He acknowledged the challenges in the aftermath of such a heavy loss but commended his team for their proactive response throughout the week.

"Last week was difficult, the first 12, 15 hours after the game were really tough," he noted.

"But we had to get past it and we did that. The boys were sprightly on Monday and went after their work and it was probably one of the easiest weeks to be fair.

"It was less detailed around what we're doing from the coaching aspect, and it was more just around the attitude and effort.

"We've got a group here that get past things pretty quickly. I think the modern player does as a general rule."
