Payne Haas Close to Broncos Contract Extension

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Less than two weeks away from November 1, Brisbane Broncos front-rower Payne Haas is reportedly close to finalizing an extension as coach Michael Maguire expresses confidence that he will remain at Red Hill.

Regarded as one of the top props in rugby league history, Haas has secured multiple Paul Morgan medals (Broncos Player of the Year), won several Dally M Prop of the Year awards, and was honored as the 2019 Dally M Rookie of the Year. His impressive track record includes playing in a Grand Final and representing both Australia and the NSW Blues.

Currently in the prime of his career, Haas is poised to become one of the most sought-after free agents in NRL history, with his contract expiring at the end of the 2026 NRL season. He is eligible to negotiate and converse with rival teams starting November 1.

Already one of the highest-paid forwards in the league, his next contract could propel him to the status of the highest-paid player in the competition, surpassing Kalyn Ponga and Nathan Cleary.

Earlier in October, it was reported that the Broncos had extended a substantial offer of $3.5 million for another three seasons, extending his contract until the end of 2029. According to The Courier-Mail, Haas is now on the brink of committing to the club.

In a conversation with the publication, Broncos coach Michael Maguire conveyed his optimism about the dual-international representing both Australia and Samoa extending his contract and continuing his journey with the Broncos at Red Hill.

This optimism comes in light of Haas attracting interest from various Sydney-based clubs and the rebel rugby union competition, R360. Reports from last month suggested that he could receive an enticing offer of $2.2 million a season from that league.
