Papalii ponders new turf: Knights in the mix

Josh Papalii, the Canberra Raiders prop, has expressed his willingness to remain in the NRL next year, even with a different club.

Reports indicate that the Newcastle Knights may be preparing to extend a contract offer to him.

Papalii is off-contract with the Raiders at the end of 2025 and has been in solid form, even returning to the State of Origin arena for the decider.

However, he has confirmed that he will not receive a new contract offer from coach Ricky Stuart's team.

"Papalii is at peace with that decision as the Green Machine look to bring through an army of junior talent in the coming seasons," while maintaining competitiveness with a forward pack led by Joseph Tapine, Corey Horsburgh, and Morgan Smithies.

Initially, Papalii appeared set for a move to England in 2026-potentially with St Helens-but he clarified in Origin camp last week that he hasn't completely closed the door on staying in the NRL.

The Newcastle Herald has reported interest from the Knights regarding Papalii's signature, although a formal contract offer has yet to be made.
