Panthers Might Regret Letting Go Star

Panthers Reject Secures Extended Contract with Knights

It is rare for the Penrith Panthers to make a significant recruitment mistake.

However, their choice to part ways with Francis Manuleleua at the conclusion of 2024 could prove detrimental.

Manuleleua signed with the Newcastle Knights for the 2025 season, spending the entire year in reserve grade before making a remarkable impact during his first-grade starting debut against the Sydney Roosters last weekend.

The second-rower concluded the match with one try assist, a tackle break, two line breaks, along with 35 post-contact metres and an impressive 123 run metres.

His stellar performance, coupled with consistent showings in the NSW Cup, has seen the 21-year-old rewarded with an upgraded contract extending through to the end of the 2028 season, including an option for an additional year.

The Panthers, who once nurtured his talent within their pathway system, reportedly let him go due to concerns over his attitude and perceived deficiencies in skill.
