The Penrith Panthers have announced the immediate retirement of Matthew Eisenhuth.
Since joining the Panthers in 2021, the forward has been a reliable fringe player for coach Ivan Cleary, earning respect as the ultimate teammate among his peers.
In his last NRL appearance, Eisenhuth even captained the Panthers, marking a noteworthy end to his career with 75 games played at the highest level. He also dedicated significant time in reserve grade, guiding younger forwards.
Before his time at Penrith, he represented the Wests Tigers from 2017 to 2020, playing 70 matches, which brought his total NRL appearances to 145.
However, recent concussion-related challenges have prevented him from adding to this impressive tally.
Matt Cameron, the CEO of Penrith rugby league, acknowledged the significant impact Eisenhuth has had on the club and the sport as a whole.
"I had the pleasure of coaching Matt as a young NYC player, and to see him finish his career representing the Australian PM's XIII against Papua New Guinea was incredibly special," Cameron stated.
"He has been an incredibly valued member of the organisation, and it's been a privilege to watch his transition from a young player into the professional and respected athlete he is today."
"His work ethic, leadership and commitment to the team helped set the standard for those around him, and he played an important role in the success we've enjoyed in recent years."
