NSWRL is facing a crucial decision as they search for the next coach to lead their State of Origin team in 2025.

While many familiar names are being thrown into the ring, it's clear that the Blues cannot afford to make a costly error in their selection process.

The departure of Michael Maguire, who brought a strong focus on defense and a passion for inspiring his players to give their all, has left a vacancy that needs to be filled with someone who can continue to instill that same level of commitment in the team.

Despite reports linking Laurie Daley and Trent Barrett to the position, it's time to look beyond these recycled options and consider a fresh face like NSW assistant coach Matt King.

Daley, who previously coached the Blues during a five-year stint from 2013 to 2017, only managed to secure one Origin Shield victory during his tenure.

With criticism from former greats like Andrew Johns pointing out his tactical shortcomings, it's clear that Daley's time in the role has passed.

Barrett, too, may not be the right fit for the job despite his experience, as the Blues need a leader who can bring a new energy and strategy to the team.

In order to avoid repeating past mistakes, NSWRL should consider looking within their own ranks and giving Matt King the opportunity to step up as head coach for the upcoming series.

With his knowledge of the game and dedication to the team, King could be the fresh perspective that the Blues need to reclaim their dominance in the State of Origin arena.
