The NRL's plans to kick off their season in Las Vegas have hit a snag as invitations to Donald Trump and Dana White have caused a stir, resulting in White Ribbon Australia severing ties with the league.

Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V'Landys made a bold move by appearing on US TV show Fox & Friends, showcasing a match ball with "TRUMP" on it, extending an invitation to the US president to attend two matches this weekend in Las Vegas.

"Mr President, we want to show you the grit and toughness of rugby league, the world's sport and entertainment hotspot, Las Vegas," V'Landys announced.

"We know you appreciate physical, hard-hitting sports.

Rugby league is as brutal as it gets - no pads or helmets for the players."

V'Landys, en route from Sydney to the US, emphasized his eagerness to have Trump at the games, stating, "If he shows up, it will be a game-changer for rugby league like never before."

In the midst of the controversy, the Canberra Raiders put forward the idea of Dana White, a staunch supporter of Trump, leading the Viking clap before their match against the Warriors at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

The NRL's bold invitations have caused quite a stir, with critics expressing their concerns about the league aligning with controversial figures.

This move may just be a risky play that could backfire for the NRL in the long run.
