NRL Stars Charged After Weekend Matches

MRC Verdict: Two NRL Stars Face Punishments

The NRL's match review committee has made decisions on incidents involving two prominent NRL players during two recent matches.

In the first match, Raiders halfback Ethan Sanders received a charge for a grade 1 careless high tackle on Valentine Holmes during the 62nd minute of the game played in Canberra.

As this marks his first offence, Sanders faces a $1000 fine. However, if he opts to contest the charge and the panel rules against him, the penalty will increase to $1500.

The incident occurred when Holmes received the ball from a scrum and was tackled by Simi Sasagi. Sanders, attempting to support as a second defender, inadvertently made high contact.

His mistake prompted immediate action, as he was reported and penalised, giving the Red V a chance to rally in the closing stages of the match.

In the subsequent game, Knights player Trey Mooney was charged for a grade 1 careless high tackle after colliding with Tigers fullback Jahream Bula in the 63rd minute.

This is Mooney's second offence, resulting in a fine of $1800 if he takes the early plea. Should he contest the charge and lose, the penalty could escalate to $2500.

The incident unfolded when Bula returned a kick and engaged with Dane Gagai before Mooney, as the second defender, made high contact, leading to a clash of heads with his teammate.
