In the snapshot, Mitchell is depicted hunched over a table with the suspicious white substance in view, as exposed by The Daily Telegraph.
Although no explicit accusations of illicit activity have been made, the NRL is keeping a keen eye on the situation.
The Rabbitohs have promptly responded to the circulating image, issuing a brief statement on Monday afternoon to acknowledge their awareness of the situation.
"The South Sydney Rabbitohs have caught wind of a photo making the rounds on social media featuring Latrell Mitchell after a personal appearance in Dubbo over the weekend," the statement discloses.
