In a first for the NRL grand final, Adam Gee has been appointed as the referee after a series of controversial decisions by Ashley Klein and Gerard Sutton in the last two rounds.

Last week, Klein faced criticism for missing an obvious knock-on by Harry Grant, causing outrage in the Storm's victory over the Roosters.

As a consequence, Klein was moved to the bunker for the following weekend.

Sutton also faced scrutiny for failing to detect a forward pass from Reece Walsh in the build-up to a Broncos try against the Warriors.

This decision left Warriors fans furious as it effectively ended any chance of a comeback.

The incident highlighted yet another glaring error in the NRL finals, with the bunker being unable to intervene on forward passes since 2001.
