NRL faces backlash for response to Mitchell controversy

NRL under fire over 'disgraceful' reaction to Latrell Mitchell interview controversy

The NRL has copped a bit of flak over their handling of the "disgraceful" reaction to the Latrell Mitchell interview debacle.

The powers that be have opted not to give the South Sydney Rabbitohs fullback a slap on the wrist.

Word on the street is that the NRL bigwigs will be having a chinwag with Latrell Mitchell and the South Sydney Rabbitohs crew this week to remind the under-fire fullback of his duties on and off the paddock.

Despite some choice language used in a fiery interview with Triple M radio after a tough loss to the Broncos, Mitchell won't be facing any punishment.

Mitchell may have owned up to his foul language, but his lack of concern has raised a few eyebrows in the NRL circles.

Commentating stalwart Anthony Maroon, a Rabbitohs die-hard, didn't hold back in calling Mitchell out as a "disgrace" and an "embarrassment to the jumper." Former players Ryan Girdler and Ben Te'o have also given their two cents on the matter.

This latest stir comes hot on the heels of Mitchell landing himself in hot water for discussing the suspension fate of Spencer Leniu, who was in hot water for racial comments towards Ezra Mam.

Mitchell's remarks were a big no-no since players and officials are forbidden from commenting on judiciary matters in the NRL.

Despite breaching this protocol, Mitchell, along with other players, spoke out against Leniu before his hearing.

The NRL has opted to let Mitchell off the hook for both incidents - the Leniu comments and the colorful interview.

However, CEO Andrew Abdo is rumored to be meeting with Mitchell at Souths HQ this week to address some of his recent actions.
