The NRL is poised to make a decision within the next three months regarding a global round, with a strategic plan for annual international expansion appearing to be the preferred approach.

Peter V'landys, chairman of the ARL Commission, has unveiled a three-year strategy that includes double-header matches in at least four cities.

He further emphasized to AAP that Las Vegas will remain a fixture on the calendar beyond its current deal, which is set to expire in 2028, deeming it the league's cornerstone event.

However, as the anticipation builds for Saturday's double-header season opener at Allegiant Stadium, V'landys has openly discussed his ambitions to expand the concept.

The NRL is particularly enthusiastic about bringing a match to London as early as next year.

Other potential locations, including Miami, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and the UAE, are also on the horizon, with plans for NRL double-headers to coincide with Super League matches in these areas.

"We're going to ease the way into it. We are going to have a three-year plan to have at least four [cities]," V'landys shared with AAP.

"We are working on it now. We're doing all the business cases, so in the next three months we will know."

Encouraged by the presence of around 16,000 fans at Thursday night's event in downtown Las Vegas, V'landys is feeling increasingly optimistic.
