An NRL team has reportedly declined an offer to acquire New Zealand international Nelson Asofa-Solomona from the Melbourne Storm.

After missing the 2025 NRL Grand Final due to suspension, Asofa-Solomona's future remains uncertain. He has not met expectations linked to his $850,000 annual salary.

In recent seasons, the front-rower has struggled to return to his peak form, appearing in only 12 matches this year. His performance has even led him to occasionally feature in reserve-grade, raising concerns about his impact on the field.

Despite being under contract until the end of 2027, with an option for 2028, reports suggest that Asofa-Solomona may not return to the Storm next season. Other teams, including the New Zealand Warriors, have already been approached regarding his potential acquisition.

Initially presented to the Warriors via a third-party contact in early September, the team has since rejected the offer.

"I don't think Nelson will be at Melbourne next year," News Corp's Brent Read stated on NRL 360. "I don't know where he'll go, I just don't think it'll be in Melbourne. I think they've been talking to him for a while about it."
